i hope some hard questions are asked of those in leadership about the levee and emergency preparations. the levee clearly was not built to withstand waves the size created by the hurricane. was there a monitoring system? was there an emergency plan to quickly repair the breach?
a hurricane cannot be controlled (outside of considerations of global warming.) but the loss of wetlands also affected the force of the storm. that can be controlled and building to withstand hurricane force can be controlled.
if the evacuation plan was to move thousands of people to the superdome, what was the plan for sanitation?
the mayor, et al are mumbling force of nature. in my view, 'heads should roll;' but i felt the same way after 9-11 about the intelligence failure and very few people lost their jobs; ok tennant eventually.
maybe we need to have the netherlands teach us something about controlling and containing water; ok there are no hurricanes in europe but the people of new orleans were not protected or taken care of in my view. this failure of leadership is not civic; not acceptable in a democracy.
one wonders when will america take care of its own and mind it's own business instead of meddling in everyone elses?
